Terms of Service
Last updated:
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of murde.rs and its related services, including its public profiles and its dashboard (together, “murde.rs”). By creating an account or using murde.rs, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use murde.rs.
The Community Guidelines and the Copyright Policy are part of these Terms. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
1. Using murde.rs
murde.rs lets you make a customisable public profile: a username and address, your picture and your own look, links to your other accounts, music, widgets that show information from other services, showcases, notes, polls, projects and more. Features change over time, and some may be limited, unavailable to some accounts or paused, including sign-ups.
You may use murde.rs only lawfully and in line with these Terms and the Community Guidelines.
2. Eligibility
You must be legally able to agree to these Terms where you live. If the law there requires permission from a parent or guardian for you to use a service like murde.rs, you may use it only with that permission.
3. Accounts
You can create an account with an email address and a password, or with Google or Discord. Whether a new account can be created at a given time depends on whether sign-ups are open, invite-only or paused.
- You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password and sign-in accounts secure.
- You are responsible for activity that happens through your account.
- Don't give misleading account information where that would break the Community Guidelines, for example to impersonate someone.
- If you sign in with Google or Discord, that service's own terms and privacy policy also apply to your use of it.
murde.rs takes reasonable steps to protect accounts, but it can't guarantee that an account will never be accessed by someone else.
4. Usernames and profile addresses
Your username is your profile's address (for example, murde.rs/yourname) and identifies your account. It isn't property: holding a username gives you no ownership of it.
- Usernames are given out as they are claimed, and which ones are available can change. Some are reserved for murde.rs's own pages and other platform purposes.
- murde.rs may reserve, rename, reclaim or remove a username when that is reasonably necessary to run the platform or avoid a conflict with its own pages, or because of impersonation, fraud, a trademark or other legal claim, moderation, or abuse.
- Don't use a username to deceptively impersonate a person, brand or organisation.
- If you change your username, your previous one may become available for someone else to claim. When an account is deleted, its username may be held back rather than released.
- Additional usernames that point to your profile (aliases), where available, follow the same rules and give you no ownership either.
5. Your content
“Your content” is anything you upload, write or publish on murde.rs, such as your profile details, images, videos, music, lyrics, links, notes, polls and showcases.
- You keep whatever rights you have in your content.
- You must have the rights and permissions needed to upload and publish it.
- So that murde.rs can work, you give murde.rs a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, resize or convert (where technically necessary), display and distribute your content through murde.rs. The licence is only for operating, providing and securing murde.rs and showing your content where you publish it. It doesn't transfer ownership to murde.rs, and it doesn't let murde.rs sell your content or use it in advertising.
- The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that remain for a time as described in the Privacy Policy.
Content on a public profile can be seen by anyone.
6. Public profiles
What you publish on a public profile is public. Anyone can see it without an account, including through:
- your profile's address on murde.rs, the same address on murde.rs's other domains (currently uwu.rip and finge.rs), and any aliases
- previews and share cards shown when someone shares your link, for example on Discord
- other public pages on murde.rs, such as the leaderboard and the profiles of people who feature you as a friend
murde.rs doesn't ask search engines to leave public profiles out, so they may appear in search results. Don't put anything on a public profile that you don't want to be public. You can unpublish your profile at any time; the Privacy Policy explains what stays reachable when you do.
7. Prohibited use
Don't use murde.rs to:
- break the law, or help anyone carry out clearly illegal activity
- distribute malware or other malicious code
- phish for passwords or other credentials, or run scams or fraud
- deceptively impersonate a person, brand or organisation
- harass or threaten people
- publish someone's private information to expose or harm them (doxxing)
- sexually exploit or abuse minors, or share content that does
- publish material you don't have the right to share
- get around bans, restrictions, moderation or access controls
- run automation or send traffic meant to disrupt murde.rs, or to inflate views, clicks or poll votes
- try to break into accounts or into murde.rs's systems
The Community Guidelines describe these rules in more detail.
8. Other services and integrations
murde.rs can connect to or show information from other services, such as Discord, Spotify, Twitch, Last.fm, Steam, Roblox, GitHub, YouTube, AniList, Chess.com and Telegram, and you can sign in with Google or Discord. murde.rs doesn't own or control these services.
- Some connections use the other service's own authorisation (OAuth), as Spotify does. Most only use a public username, ID or link that you enter, and murde.rs doesn't check that the account is yours. Don't connect accounts in a way that misleads people about who you are.
- Each service has its own terms and privacy policy, which apply to your use of it.
- What those services provide can change, be delayed or stop at any time. murde.rs isn't responsible for their content, availability or actions, and what a widget shows may be out of date.
- By connecting a service, you let murde.rs fetch, store and display the information needed to provide that connection, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can disconnect it from your dashboard at any time.
9. Moderation
To enforce these Terms and the Community Guidelines, protect people or murde.rs, respond to legal requirements, or prevent abuse, murde.rs may:
- hide content
- place a profile under review
- restrict a profile, so it stays public but its owner can't change the username, upload, add links or publish
- suspend or ban an account, for a time or permanently, or deactivate it, which takes its profile offline
- rename, reclaim or reserve a username
- remove badges or correct view counts
murde.rs may do this without notice. A banned profile may show a short public reason. If you have a question about a moderation decision, email support@murde.rs.
10. Copyright
Respect other people's intellectual property. murde.rs may remove or disable access to material reported as infringing, and may restrict or close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe. See the Copyright Policy.
11. Changes to murde.rs and availability
- murde.rs may change, add, limit or remove features.
- murde.rs may sometimes be unavailable, for maintenance or because something went wrong. Uninterrupted availability isn't promised.
- Keep your own copies of anything important you put on murde.rs. The export in Settings saves your profile's configuration; it isn't a full backup and doesn't include your uploaded files.
12. Leaving murde.rs, and termination
You can stop using murde.rs at any time, and you can unpublish your profile from your dashboard so that only you can see it.
Where the account-deletion control is available to you, you can delete your account in Settings. It currently asks for your account password, so an account that has only ever signed in with Google or Discord can't use it yet; to delete one of those, email legal@murde.rs from the address on the account. Deleting your account deletes your profile, its content, your uploaded files and your connections to other services straight away. Some records remain, as the Privacy Policy explains, and your username is held so nobody else can claim it.
murde.rs may restrict, ban or deactivate your account, or end your access, if you break these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or where that is reasonably necessary for security, legal or platform reasons. Deletion, a ban or deactivation can make your public content unavailable.
13. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, murde.rs is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. murde.rs doesn't promise that:
- it will be uninterrupted or free of errors
- content on it, including content from other users and information from other services, is accurate or current
- your content will never be lost
Some places don't allow some of these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, murde.rs and the people who run it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of murde.rs or your inability to use it, or from the content or conduct of other users or other services. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.
15. Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be updated. The date at the top shows when they last changed. murde.rs will make reasonable efforts to tell users about material changes, for example with a notice on the site. Where the law allows, continuing to use murde.rs after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
