Copyright Policy
Last updated:
murde.rs respects intellectual-property rights and expects everyone who uses it to upload and publish only material they have the right to use. This policy explains what that means for your profile, and how copyright complaints are handled.
1. Your responsibility
You're responsible for having permission to publish everything you put on murde.rs, including:
- images: your picture, banner, backgrounds, artwork and poll images
- videos, such as a background video
- music and audio you upload or link to, and lyrics
- text, such as your bio and notes
- anything else you upload, link to as media, or write
Information a widget shows from a service you connect, such as album art from Last.fm or a game's cover from Steam, comes from that service. Showing it on your profile doesn't make it yours.
2. Reporting copyright infringement
If you believe material on murde.rs infringes a copyright you own or are authorised to act for, email a complaint to copyright@murde.rs. It should include:
- a description of the copyrighted work
- where the material is on murde.rs, such as the profile address and which image, track or other item it is
- your name and how to contact you
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent or the law
- a statement that the information in the complaint is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner
- your physical or electronic signature
Before complaining, consider whether the use may be permitted, for example by a licence or by an exception in copyright law such as fair use or fair dealing.
3. What happens next
When murde.rs receives a complaint, it may:
- review it, and ask for more information if it is incomplete
- remove or disable access to the material where appropriate
- let the account owner know, where appropriate
- restrict accounts involved in repeated infringement
murde.rs doesn't promise a fixed response time.
4. Counter-notices
If material of yours was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that the material was misidentified, you can send a counter-notice to copyright@murde.rs. It should include:
- what was removed, and where it was on murde.rs
- why you believe the removal was a mistake or the material was misidentified
- your name and how to contact you
- any statements the law that applies to you requires for a counter-notice
- your physical or electronic signature
murde.rs may restore the material, keep it unavailable, or pass the counter-notice to the person who complained, depending on the circumstances.
5. Repeat infringement
murde.rs may restrict, ban or deactivate the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright, or who abuse this process, for example with complaints they know to be false.
